What I Want For My Birthday

Posted in Uncategorized by ebenpagan on December 2, 2008

My birthday is this coming Friday.

And I’ve decided to do something a little UNUSUAL for my birthday this year: I’m GIVING IT UP!

Here’s what’s happening…

Week before last, I met an amazing person who is doing something very important to help the world. He has figured out how to help groups of people in Africa to build wells for themselves and get at the fresh water that’s right under their feet. As you probably know, something like a billion people have to drink dirty, contaminated water every single day.

So this year, instead of getting birthday presents, what I’d like instead is for you to join a special webinar that I’m hosting on Tuesday at 11 AM Pacific / 2 PM Eastern – where my new friend Scott Harrison, the founder of Charity:Water is going to show you some of the work he’s doing to help families and children in Africa to get clean drinking water.

If you’re interested in how business and charity can work together, then you’re in for a treat. This presentation will teach you a lot about execution, marketing, and persuasion. And it will teach you how to help others in a way that WORKS. Seriously, you’re going to learn a LOT on this webinar.

As you well know, I’ve never done something like this before. So you can trust me when I tell you that this is VERY important and very special. When you join the webinar, you’re going to learn a lot… and you’re going to have a chance to contribute to something that’s really making a difference.

So instead of getting me something for my birthday, please join this webinar – which is a gift I would REALLY appreciate. This webinar is going to be my birthday party!

If you want to attend, all you have to do is sign up here (it’s free):

https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/643946414

Please make sure you register NOW, because I’ve invited about 110,000 people – and we can only hold 1,000 total on the webinar.

Talk to you Tuesday at 11 AM Pacific / 2 PM EST. Email me if you have questions…

    Hey Eben –

Happy Birthday to a fellow Sag! My birthday was 11/23. Sorry I can’t come to this call today. I’ll be on a client session at that time. But I really like the sound of that effort with the wells…

I was at a birthday party last month and we were playing a question game. The question going around the circle was, “What one question would you ask God?”

My answer was…”If God were real I’d ask, ‘Could you please make more resources available to the people in Africa so that they have enough clean water to drink and grow more of their own food?'”

So this charity you’re talking about is right in line with where my thoughts about Africa have been too. I’ll look into Charity:Water and see how I can help…

    Have a great birthday call!

I don’t often cry in the afternoon, but I did today.

Thank you for opening my eyes. They have a tendency to close, because I have things so good.

    Happy birthday.

For many years we are sponsoring children through http://www.planusa.org/ in different parts of the world, but Scott’s presentation today was so inspiring that we will have to expand into this area as well – thanks for bringing this info to me – and happy birthday!

Hey Eben, was on the webinar with Scott, it was extraordinary. As a 40 year old Aussie bloke I haven’t cried for a while, but I shed some tears this morning! As you said, it’s remarkable to think how close by those people are, but how easy it is to succumb to “compassion fatigue” and forget about them. I made a donation to Scott’s charity, and am setting up my online business to systemize ongoing donations. I’ll be encouraging my customers to do the same.

Thanks Eben, it was an amazing call. And Happy Birthday!

And we trample each other (to death) to buy the obligatiry Christmas presents. We waste water without care in so many ways. By comparison we have no hardships. What a wonderful unselfish task this young man has taken up.A true epiphany .It is amazing how he changed his whole life to respond to the suffering of others. That is almost holy.

Happy belated birthday Eben. What a great idea. Just imagine if more people did something like this more often. One of the best birthday presents I could ever give. Thanks for the opportunity!
